George Rothman
Music Director & Conductor
Riverside Symphony conductor and founding music director George Rothman has led orchestras throughout the United States, as well as South America, Asia, and Europe. Praised as “adventurous, committed, [and] energetic” by Musical America, his performances of an unusually diverse repertory are also routinely acclaimed by The New York Times and other leading publications. As an advocate for new music, Mr. Rothman has led well over 150 world and local premieres from both established and emerging composers around the world, and under his leadership, Riverside Symphony’s seven CDs of major contemporary orchestral works—mainly world premiere recordings—have been lauded by Fanfare for their “awesomely assured performances.” He has served on the music faculties of Columbia and Yale Universities and, since 2005, Brooklyn College, where he is currently Conductor of the Conservatory Orchestra and Professor of Music
Anthony Korf
Artistic Director & Composer-in-Residence
Composer and co-founder Anthony Korf works closely with George Rothman in the selection of Riverside Symphony programs, soloists and orchestra musicians. He has contributed to the development of the orchestra’s new-music and education projects, and serves as new-music advisor to Mr. Rothman and liaison to the composer community at large. Mr. Korf has been commissioned by the San Francisco Symphony, American Composers Orchestra, the Koussevitsky Music Foundation and the National Endowment for the Arts, among others. His orchestral, chamber, and vocal works have been performed throughout the United States by many leading ensembles. Mr. Korf, a 2008/09 Guggenheim Fellow, has been twice honored by the American Academy of Arts and Letters. Founder and conductor of the acclaimed contemporary chamber ensemble Parnassus (1975-2002), Mr. Korf has been recorded as composer and conductor on Bridge, CRI, Koch International, New World, and Summit records.
